Oh, December: you are a time for reflection and a time for celebration. In this spirit, let’s take a quick look back at the awesome-ness that was our fall event line-up and steal a peek at what’s in store for 2017.
Community Art & Making Dreams Happen
We kicked off the 2016-2017 Ad Club season with a terrific talk about art and trains by our friend Matt Bero. His journey with the Millennial Trains Project and his passion for community art no doubt set the stage perfectly for our new season.
We Are Creative Heroes
With Matt’s message of sharing our dreams, we ventured onto the topic of Creative Dungeoneering with Michael Johnson to learn more about assembling the right teams to bring those dreams to life. It’s not a job, it’s a quest. Whether you fancy yourself a fighter, a rogue, a cleric, or a wizard, creativity comes in many forms and everyone can play a valuable role on the team.
Living In the (Micro) Moment
The cool thing about our creative roles is that they can change. They have to because, as Google’s Mike Lorenc confirmed at our November luncheon, marketing is changing. We’re living in a mobile world and we’re constantly relying on our smart phones to get us through our day. We need to be there and be relevant in the micro-moments when our clients need us. YouTube is currently the second largest search engine behind Google. Now that’s saying something.
Good Drinks, Better Conversations
It wouldn’t be Ad Club though, if it was all work and no play. When we weren’t challenging our brains to think differently, we had some great times at our member spotlight happy hours. Big thanks to SHIFT Visuals and Candeo Creative for hosting our crew at their places of business; and another hearty thanks to Dave Jackson for again hosting our annual holiday kegger at his studio in Appleton.
If you thought fall was great, then you’ll love what we have planned for spring! It all starts with the American Advertising Awards, or Addys as we affectionately call ‘em. The call for entries went out in late November and submissions are due by January 6th. We can’t wait to see the talent that will be represented at this year’s awards presentation on February 17th! (We also can’t wait to see everyone’s speakeasy-inspired attire.)
Student Portfolio Review
Another perennial favorite, the Student Portfolio Review, is set for April 14th. We have some great creative professionals on board to serve as judges and presenters for the event. Student members, you won’t want to miss this!
Luncheons & Happy Hours
We also have a great line-up of luncheons planned. On March 16th, Antionette Carroll of Creative Reaction Lab will be coming in to speak on the need for action-based design and inclusion to highlight and expand upon civic engagement. On May 18th, Stefan Bucher of 344 Loves You will help us close out our season with a talk on how to structure our creative practices to be the most successful we can be.
And last, but certainly not least, member spotlight happy hours are set to return on March 2nd and May 4th. Be sure to visit our website often and follow Fox River Ad Club on Facebook to stay on top of event details as they are released.
We honestly couldn’t do any of this without our amazing members, so thank you for being a part of it! From our crazy crew to yours, we wish you happy holidays and a wonderful New Year!
