Hello. I attended the North by NorthBest District 8 Fall Conference & Development Series September 26-27 at Ruttger’s Bay Lodge in Deerwod, Minnesota. Networking Opportunities! I was able to meet a lot of folks from other AAF clubs from District 8 including Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Keynote speaker Stefan Mumaw – Creative Director, Callahan Creek kicked off the event. You might recognize some of his work as he has written six books, the most recent being Creative Boot Camp, a 30-day online and offline creative training program. He is the author of Chasing the Monster Idea, Caffeine for the Creative Team and Caffeine for the Creative Mind.
If you’re looking for a little pick me up, check out one of his books or visit his online training program. He has a great outlook on brainstorming for those times when you hit a rut.
Another great speaker I enjoyed was Willow Sweeney, Co-founder of Top 20 Training. Her topic “Live Above the Line — How our Thinking Governs Our Experience” was inspirational! When adults become aware of their thinking, they increase the possibility of making choices that enhance the quality of their lives. This session focused on being aware of our thinking so we know when it is working in our best interest (above the line) and when it is not working in our best interest (below the line). There are conditions that come up in our life that invite us to go Below the Line, try to make it a positive experience instead.
Another highlight of the weekend was John Linn, Adventure Photography. Behind the Scenes with an Action Photographer. John has many years of experience shooting for Nautic Global Group, Avalon, Crestliner, Glastron, Four Winns, Bayliner and other action packed brands! He shared plenty of tips and tricks on how a water-sport photographer gets into focus. Ever see a pontoon boat rigged to capture boats in action? John will do whatever it takes to get the best pic for boating magazine and his waterboard clients. We all wanted to see his drone camera in action so we went outside and he launched the drone up into the sky and clicked a few pics for us on the remote.
It was a beautiful fall weekend in Minnesota, I am glad I attended, made some new friends and we’re all ready to start the 2014 – 2015 Fox River Ad Club season!
